It was a long, exhausting trip to Monroe and back for the Riverside softball team Tuesday night, but coming home with a win was worth it.

The Lady Rebels, the No. 12 seed, defeated No. 5 seed St. Frederick’s, 2-1, to advance to the second round of the playoffs. Riverside (14-8) will host No. 4 seed St. John Thursday at 5 p.m.

Camryn Loving hit a solo homerun in the third to tie the game at 1. Cara Campbell’s  single in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Alona Felton for the game-winning run.
