Riverside to welcome students back to school on Oct. 7

Staff

More than a month after Hurricane Ida devastated much of the River Parishes, including St. John the Baptist Parish, Riverside Academy in Reserve is set to reopen its doors to students.

The school will welcome students in first through 12th grade on Thursday, October 7. Pre-K through kindergarten students will return on Monday, October 11. While some work is ongoing, repairs have been made to damaged buildings and classrooms in preparation for the safe return of students.

Families who are displaced and unable to return on these dates should contact Principal Holly Haase.

Arrival and dismissal times will remain the same. The cafeteria will be open, serving breakfast and lunch.

Because so many families experienced damage to their homes, causing students to lose supplies, uniforms, and school bags, Riverside will relax its uniform policy through December.  Students may wear any RA t-shirt, sweatshirt, long sleeved shirt, and RA jackets in school colors (no hoodies).

Boys in grades PK3-5th may wear any navy or khaki shorts or pants.  Boys in grades 6th – 12th may wear any khaki pants.  (No cargo, faded pants, pants with holes, or pants with unfinished hems.)  Girls in PK3-5th may wear normal uniform or khaki walking shorts.

Girls in 6th-12th grade may wear their  normal uniform skirt or khaki pants.  (No cargo, faded pants, pants with holes, or pants with unfinished hems.)  Any closed toe tennis shoe may be worn.

Personal appearance remains the same.  Please refer to the student handbook.  Due to the state mask mandate, masks must be worn indoors.  Any solid color or RA mask may be worn.   Any families having extenuating circumstances hindering them from following the above policy, should contact the school office to speak with an administrator.

The Fall Break, scheduled for October 11-12, is canceled.   December 14th, 15th, and 16th, which were previously early dismissal days, will be full days. December 17th will still remain as early dismissal.

Parents and students are encouraged to check email and social media daily for new information and updates.
