The Riverside Academy gymnasium was a sea of pink Wednesday as the Lady Rebels volleyball team hosted its annual Pink Game against St. Charles Catholic. Besides  achieving their goal of raising more than $1,000 for the American Cancer Society through the St. James Parish Relay for Life, the Lady Rebels swept the Comets, 3-0.

The team now has won nine of its last 10 games.

Wednesday’s match was a true community event with a large crowd. Most of the attendees wore pink clothing and students were allowed to wear pink shirts to school for $1.  Each player dedicated the game to special people who have battled cancer and presented roses to their honorees. There were door prizes and extra treats at the concessions stands to help raise money, along with a 50/50 raffle. And the RA students came out to support the team — even some of the band.

The Lady Rebels will host South Lafourche on Oct. 24. The JV plays at 4:30 with the varsity following. The volleyball playoffs will  begin on November 2.
