Riverside Academy has two new basketball coaches for the 2022-2023 season. Darrion Cook will coach the girls team and John White will coach the boys team.

Cook played basketball, football and ran track at Riverside Academy, graduating in 2016. He was part of the 2014 state championship basketball team. He went on to play wide receiver and special teams at Nicholls State University. This is his first year at Riverside.

White, who is a RA alumni of 1985, played football, basketball, baseball, and track and played baseball at Jones County Junior College. He attended Southeastern Louisiana University, Jones County Junior College, and University of Southern Mississippi. This is White’s thirty-second year of teaching and coaching high school. He previously coached football, basketball, and track at RA in 1991 before coaching at Loranger, St. Thomas Aquinas, and Oak Forest Academy. White came back to Riverside to coach basketball as it has been one of the state’s most successful programs.

The boys will open their season Dec. 10 at Thomas Jefferson. The girls begin their season Dec. 12 against Haynes Academy.
