The Riverside Academy Lady Rebels softball team advanced to LHSAA State Tournament in Sulphur with a 14-5 win over Sacred Heart of Ville Platte on Saturday. The Lady Rebels, the No. 2 seed, will meet No. 3 seed St. Frederick’s in the Division IV Select semifinals Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Frasch Park in Sulphur. The winner will advance to the finals to be played at noon on Saturday. It’s the sixth straight year the team has advanced to the tournament and the 20th time overall. Riverside won the state title in 2002 and were runners-up in 1998.

Riverside (19-9)  fell behind the Trojans 5-0 before rallying for 14 runs. Riverside scored six runs in the third, one in the fourth, and seven in the sixth. The Rebels hit four home runs all by seniors. Emily Vicknair, Camryn Loving, Ava Fernandez, and Lea St. Pierre all homered. Vicknair had six RBIs on the day with a 3-run homerun and 3-run triple. The team now has 63 homers on the season, breaking last year’s record of 58.
