A Texas man is facing charges of murder after allegedly shooting his wife, Yanira Marin de Romero, during an argument in their home. Jose Romero, 43, told police that he killed his wife because she did not take his back pain seriously, a claim that has left their family and community in shock.
The Tragic Incident
On May 2, 2023, police responded to a call about a shooting at a home in the Cloverleaf area of Harris County, located within the Houston metro area. Romero allegedly opened fire on his wife while she was in the bathroom, hitting her multiple times.
Their three children, ages 3, 8, and 13, were at the home during the shooting but were fortunately unharmed. Marin de Romero was found at the scene with several gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead shortly after.
Romero reportedly called 911 himself, stating that he had just shot his wife. Authorities arrived at the home and detained him without incident. According to police, Romero explained to detectives that he had killed his wife because she “didn’t take his back pain seriously.”
A Community in Shock
Relatives of the couple, who had been together since their adolescence, expressed their disbelief and heartbreak after the tragic event. Many described the couple’s marriage as “perfect” in Facebook posts made after Marin de Romero’s death.
One relative wrote, “My heart and our family are shattered, unable to accept this reality,” adding that the couple had been “our family’s pride.”
The couple’s children are now left without both parents, and family members are struggling to process the unimaginable loss. One relative noted that Marin de Romero may have left this world “without even knowing what happened in that moment.”
Legal Proceedings
Jose Romero remains in custody at the Harris County Jail. He has been charged with murder in the death of his wife and is awaiting further legal proceedings.
