A shocking murder case in Washington has gained widespread attention after investigators reportedly used Ring camera footage to uncover what they believe was a staged home invasion. Authorities say a Washington man is accused of killing his wife inside their home before attempting to cover up the crime.
Washington Man Accused Of Killing Wife And Staging Home Invasion
According to investigators, the incident happened on May 1, 2026, in Covington, Washington, when the King County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported home invasion and stabbing.
Police said Kyle Cathcart called 911 and claimed that an unknown intruder attacked him and his wife, Jodi Cathcart, inside their home.
Court documents stated that Kyle told detectives he heard his wife call his name before seeing a person dressed in dark clothing stabbing her with a kitchen knife.
When deputies arrived, they found Jodi dead in a bedroom with dozens of stab wounds. Reports said she had been stabbed 48 times.
Kyle Cathcart reportedly suffered only minor injuries, including cuts and bruises.
Ring Camera Footage Raised Questions For Investigators
As detectives investigated the scene, they reportedly discovered evidence that did not match Kyle Cathcart’s version of events.
According to court documents, Ring camera footage showed a person leaving the property after the murder. However, investigators said there was no footage showing anyone entering the home before the killing.
Authorities later claimed the person seen leaving matched Kyle Cathcart’s height and weight.
Investigators also reportedly found clothing connected to the suspected intruder inside a neighbour’s trash bin. One piece of clothing was identified by family members as belonging to Jodi Cathcart.
Police further noted that blood was found near the garage keypad, suggesting someone familiar with the garage code may have entered and exited the home without appearing on camera.
Previous Domestic Violence Allegation Emerged
Reports also revealed a disturbing previous incident involving the couple.
According to court records, in 2024 Kyle Cathcart allegedly admitted to taking a sleep aid before attempting to smother his wife using a pillow wrapped in plastic.
Jodi’s mother and one of her friends reportedly confirmed the earlier incident to investigators.
The information added to investigators’ concerns as they continued building the case against him.

The couple were adoptive parents to three young children under the age of eight, who are now staying with relatives and family friends.

One close friend called her a “ball of light” whose laughter made people around her feel happy and comfortable.
Others praised her dedication to foster and adoptive families, saying her love for children was clear to everyone who knew her.
Murder Investigation Continues
Authorities charged Kyle Cathcart with murder after investigators concluded the home invasion story was allegedly staged.
Reports indicate he is currently being held on a $60 million bond. Officials have not publicly confirmed whether he has entered a plea.
