A murder case that shocked residents in Utah is now moving closer to trial after a judge ruled there is enough evidence for prosecutors to continue with the case. A Utah man accused of killing his mother and stepfather could soon face trial more than three years after the deadly shootings.
Utah Man Accused Of Killing Mother And Stepfather
Authorities say Tryston Erickson has been charged in connection with the deaths of his mother, Jeannie Parker, and stepfather, Timothy Parker.
The couple were found dead inside their home in Spanish Fork, Utah, on March 14, 2023, after police were asked to perform a welfare check when the pair failed to show up for work for several days.
According to investigators, officers discovered both victims inside a basement bedroom partially covered with blankets. Authorities said both died from gunshot wounds.
Police Found Signs Of Violence Inside The Home
Court documents revealed investigators found disturbing evidence throughout the house.
Police reported discovering dozens of firearms, bullet casings, bullet holes in walls, and blood leading down the stairs toward the basement.
Authorities also claimed there were signs someone attempted to clean the crime scene, including washed clothing with blood stains and evidence of blood cleanup inside the home.
Investigators soon realised Erickson, who lived with the couple, was missing along with his mother’s car.
Suspect Arrested After Colorado Chase
Police later tracked Jeannie Parker’s mobile phone to Colorado.
Authorities eventually located Erickson in Grand County, Colorado, where he was arrested following a high-speed chase while driving his mother’s vehicle.
During questioning, investigators said Erickson admitted to taking the car and mobile phone.
According to police documents, when officers asked why he fled to Colorado, Erickson allegedly responded that he knew he was going to jail anyway and wanted to “have a little fun.”
Police also reportedly found firearms and bank cards belonging to other family members in his possession.
Investigators Discovered Photos On Phone
One of the most disturbing developments in the investigation came after police searched Erickson’s phone.
Authorities said they found photos showing the bodies of Jeannie and Timothy Parker. Investigators claimed the images were taken on March 12, 2023, days before the bodies were officially discovered.
Neighbours also reportedly told police they saw Erickson outside the home around the same time.
Court documents further revealed that Timothy Parker had reportedly been trying to evict Erickson from the home shortly before the killings.
Murder Trial Moving Forward
Erickson now faces multiple serious charges, including:
- Two counts of aggravated murder
- Obstruction of justice
- Theft
- Abuse or desecration of a human body
- Weapons offences
- Unlawful use of financial cards
The case experienced delays after questions were raised about Erickson’s mental competency to stand trial.
Following several hearings, he was eventually declared competent in December 2025.
After reviewing evidence during hearings held in March and May 2026, a judge ruled there was enough evidence for the double murder case to proceed to trial.
Erickson remains in custody and is expected to be arraigned on June 10.
Case Continues To Draw Attention
The shocking details surrounding the deaths of Jeannie and Timothy Parker have continued drawing attention in Utah and beyond.
Many people following the case remain disturbed by allegations involving the crime scene, the photographs found on the suspect’s phone, and the claims that efforts were made to hide evidence.
As the legal process continues, prosecutors are expected to present further evidence during the upcoming trial proceedings.
