Louisiana Man Sentenced to 40 Years for Killing Ex-Partner Outside Hospital
Roland Domino, 61, was sentenced on Monday after pleading guilty to the manslaughter of Patricia Jackson, his former domestic partner. The crime occurred in the parking lot of Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center in Baton Rouge, where Domino and Jackson were involved in a heated argument. Domino shot Jackson during the altercation, which ended in her tragic death.
Following the shooting, Domino fled the scene and was later found by Baton Rouge police on the Mississippi River Bridge, still holding a gun in his hand.
Domino Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter
Although initially charged with second-degree murder, Domino ultimately pled guilty to manslaughter. The plea came after a history of legal proceedings, including a prior claim of not guilty by way of insanity. However, after evaluation by the court, Judge Tarvald Smith determined that Domino was fit to stand trial, and the case moved forward.
During the sentencing, Domino expressed remorse for his actions, telling the court, “I would like to say I’m sorry, and she didn’t deserve it.” The hearing was attended by Jackson’s daughter, grandson, and granddaughter, who were present to witness the proceedings and the delivery of the sentence.
A Devastating Loss for the Family
Patricia Jackson’s family, deeply affected by the loss, had to endure the painful reality of her death in a public and violent way. The case has left the community grappling with the devastating effects of domestic violence, and Jackson’s family has had to cope with both the emotional toll of the loss and the prolonged legal process.
The 40-year sentence handed down to Roland Domino is a reminder of the consequences of violence in intimate relationships, particularly domestic disputes that escalate tragically.
