A Nevada couple has confessed to the tragic murder of their 3-year-old daughter, Zaela Walker, in 2018. Ricky Beasley, 34, and Lakeia Walker, 35, have both pleaded guilty to charges related to their daughter’s death, with prosecutors saying the child was killed after being thrown against a wall by her father for wetting her pants.
The couple hid her body, which has never been found, and maintained a false narrative about her disappearance for months.
The Brutal Incident
Zaela’s parents initially claimed that their daughter was in the care of relatives after she disappeared in 2018. However, a witness, Beasley’s own mother, came forward with crucial information. She told police that she had last seen Zaela with Beasley, who became enraged at her for wetting herself.
According to the grandmother, she heard a loud thud and then saw Beasley holding Zaela in his arms as she cried. Investigators believe that Beasley threw the child against a wall after becoming upset with her.
Following the incident, Beasley reportedly searched online for “how to stop seizures in young children,” which raised further suspicions.
The Aftermath and the Cover-Up
Lakeia Walker was later interviewed by police, during which she failed a lie detector test. She also made statements that led investigators to believe that Zaela was not alive.
One of the most disturbing pieces of evidence was Walker’s account of a vehicle trunk, which she said “reeked, like rotten meat.” Walker later admitted to helping Beasley clean the trunk of his car, which was allegedly stained by the stench of her daughter’s body.
In court documents, prosecutors explained that Walker helped Beasley vacuum and clean the trunk using lemon-scented ammonia in an attempt to rid the vehicle of the smell.
Legal Proceedings and Sentencing
In 2019, a police detective testified before a grand jury about recorded jail phone calls between Beasley and Walker. During the calls, Walker reportedly told Beasley, “You always say no body, no crime,” a chilling statement that indicated their knowledge of the severity of their crime and their plan to cover it up.
Beasley, who is expected to receive a prison sentence ranging from 10 to 25 years with the possibility of parole, and Walker, who faces a prison term of 1 to 5 years, are both scheduled to be sentenced on July 23, 2026.
