A shocking murder case in Ohio has left a local community stunned after a 28-year-old man was accused of killing his neighbor and hiding the victim’s body under a pile of mulch outside his home. Authorities say the suspect allegedly beat the man to death before attempting to cover up the crime.
The disturbing incident happened in Columbus, Ohio, and investigators say the victim’s body was discovered after the suspect’s own father contacted emergency services with concerns about his son’s behaviour.
Ohio Man Charged With Neighbor’s Murder
Authorities identified the suspect as Markus Say Yeanay, 28, who now faces charges of murder and tampering with evidence.
The victim was identified as 39-year-old Xavier Reynolds.
According to police reports, officers from the Columbus Division of Police responded to a home on Brocton Court shortly before 10 p.m. after receiving a call about a possible emergency situation.
When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the body of an adult male showing signs of what investigators described as homicidal violence.
Emergency responders pronounced Reynolds dead at the scene.
An autopsy later determined that Reynolds died from blunt force trauma to the head.
Body Found Wrapped in Rug Under Mulch
Court documents revealed disturbing details about how investigators discovered the victim’s body.
According to reports, Yeanay’s father called 911 after becoming concerned that his son had killed someone and hidden the body near the house.
Responding officers reportedly discovered Reynolds’ body wrapped inside a rug and covered with a tarp. Investigators said mulch had been placed on top in an apparent attempt to conceal the remains.
Police later questioned Yeanay’s father, who reportedly told investigators he confronted his son after discovering the body.
Authorities say Yeanay allegedly began crying before fleeing the scene on foot.
The following morning, officers with a SWAT team tracked him down and arrested him.
Investigators Found Blood and Possible Weapons
Detectives searching the residence reportedly found a large amount of blood inside the home.
Investigators also recovered clothing and possible weapons from nearby trash bins as part of the ongoing investigation.
According to court records, Yeanay’s father told police that his son had struggled with anger issues in the past.
Authorities continue collecting evidence while preparing the criminal case against the suspect.
Community Shocked by Violence
Residents in the Brittany Hills neighbourhood expressed shock over the violent incident, describing the area as normally peaceful and close-knit.
One resident reportedly said the murder deeply disturbed the community because serious crimes rarely happen in the neighbourhood.
Many neighbours also checked on elderly residents nearby after learning about the disturbing discovery.
The case has left local families feeling unsettled while police continue investigating the full circumstances surrounding Reynolds’ death.
Suspect Previously Convicted in Another Killing
Court records from Indiana reportedly show that Yeanay had previously been convicted in connection with another homicide case involving his uncle in 2016.
Authorities said he served nine years in prison for that crime before later returning to Ohio.
The revelation has added further attention to the current murder investigation.
Yeanay is currently being held at the James A. Karnes Correctional Center.
A Franklin County judge ordered him to remain jailed on a $1 million bond while the case moves through the legal system.
The tragic death of Xavier Reynolds has deeply affected both his loved ones and the surrounding community. As investigators continue examining the case, many residents remain shaken by the violent allegations and the disturbing details surrounding the discovery of the body.
The incident has also raised questions about repeat violent offenders and community safety. Authorities are expected to continue gathering evidence while prosecutors prepare for future court proceedings against the accused suspect.
