MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A Tennessee woman, Ateariny Boyd, 20, is facing serious charges after allegedly attempting to kill her ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend when she discovered him with another woman.
Boyd has been charged with two counts of attempted murder in the first degree, employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, and vandalism causing damage between $2,500 and $10,000, along with violating bail conditions.
The Incident on Driver Street
The incident occurred on February 18, around 6 a.m., in the South Memphis neighborhood, along Driver Street. Police responded to reports of a shooting early that morning and found both victims waiting when they arrived at the scene, according to a police report obtained by Memphis-based CBS affiliate WREG.
The female victim and her boyfriend told police that they were at the man’s house when they heard loud banging on the front door and window. The woman claimed that Boyd, who was outside, yelled at her ex-boyfriend for having another woman inside his house.
Destruction and Pursuit
After the yelling stopped, the victim heard the sound of glass breaking. The victim went outside and saw Boyd using a large metal object to hit the windshield of her Volkswagen Jetta. In addition, Boyd allegedly slashed all four tires of the car, causing significant damage.
Despite the damage, the victim was able to drive away. However, Boyd allegedly followed her in a Nissan. During the pursuit, Boyd pulled up alongside the Jetta, rolled down her window, and fired multiple shots at the victim, striking the rear of the vehicle.
Victim Escapes and Car Damage
As the shots hit the car, the female victim scrambled out of the driver’s seat, moved to the passenger side, and jumped out just before the Jetta crashed into a wooden pole. Authorities estimated the damage to the car at around $2,500.
After the crash, the male victim, who lived in the house, went outside and saw the Jetta crashed into the pole. The man then tried to reverse his vehicle, only to see Boyd park her Nissan, get out, and fire two shots before fleeing the scene.
Investigation and Charges
Two bullet casings were found near the scene, in front of the man’s house. The male victim later identified Ateariny Boyd in a police lineup, leading to her arrest.
