A man who fled to Mexico after allegedly killing his ex-girlfriend in Tustin, California, has been arrested, police said.

Man Arrested After Fleeing to Mexico

Juan Marquez, 47, of Hawthorne, shot and killed his ex-girlfriend, Sandra Fernandez Rodriguez, 42, of Anaheim, earlier this week. The shooting occurred Thursday near the intersection of Medford Avenue and Yorba Street, close to Rodriguez’s workplace. Authorities said Marquez lay in wait before opening fire.

Flight and Capture

After the shooting, Marquez fled to Mexico through the San Ysidro Port of Entry. Detectives quickly identified him as the suspect and obtained an arrest warrant.

Marquez was detained by U.S. Customs and Border Protection on Saturday as he returned to the United States.

Charges and Detention

Marquez was booked into the Orange County Jail and charged with murder. He is being held without bail.

Motive Unknown

Authorities have not disclosed a possible motive for the shooting.
