CHICAGO, Ill. – An Illinois man, working two jobs to support his family, was fatally struck by his own delivery van after being carjacked. Daniel Figueroa, 28, was found dead outside Loretto Hospital in Chicago early on Monday morning after completing an Uber Eats delivery.
Figueroa’s Last Delivery and the Carjacking
Figueroa had just dropped off an Uber Eats delivery for a doctor working at Loretto Hospital. According to police, the doctor who went outside to pick up the order found Figueroa lying in the street. Surveillance footage from the area later showed Figueroa discovering his van being stolen by three individuals: two men and a woman.
Attempt to Stop the Theft Turns Fatal
As Figueroa tried to stop the theft, he was tragically dragged by the van for about half a block before the suspects sped away. Police reported that Figueroa was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The cause of death has not been officially released, but police stated that Figueroa was fatally struck by his own vehicle as the offender fled.
Arrest of Montoya Perry
The Chicago Police Department announced on Tuesday that Montoya Perry, 33, was arrested in connection with the carjacking and subsequent death of Figueroa. Perry faces charges of murder and vehicular hijacking. She remains in custody without bond, and her next court appearance is scheduled for March 18.
Figueroa’s Background and Family
Figueroa’s girlfriend, Sandra Guerrero, spoke to local ABC affiliate WLS, sharing that Figueroa had just finished a shift at Amazon on Sunday before starting his late-night shift with Uber Eats. Guerrero said Figueroa had been working hard to provide for her and her young son, whom he had lovingly treated as his own.
Ongoing Investigation and Other Suspects
While Perry has been arrested, information about the other two suspects involved in the carjacking has not yet been made available. Authorities have not reported any additional arrests in connection with Figueroa’s death, and the investigation remains ongoing.
