Former Vice President Kamala Harris has recorded a robocall urging voters to support Rep. Jasmine Crockett in the Democratic primary for Senate in Texas. The call, released to the public on Tuesday, marks Harris’ support for Crockett’s bid as the congresswoman faces off against state Rep. James Talarico in an increasingly competitive race.
Robocall Encouraging Voter Support
In the robocall, Harris encourages Texas voters to vote for Crockett either on Friday, February 27, or Election Day, Tuesday, March 3. Harris said in the call:
“This is Kamala Harris, and I’m calling to encourage you to please go vote for my friend Jasmine Crockett in the Democratic primary today, Friday, February 27, or on Election Day, Tuesday, March 3.”
Harris continued, saying that Texas has the chance to send “a fighter like Jasmine Crockett to the United States Senate.” She added, “Jasmine has the experience and record to hold Donald Trump and his billionaire cronies accountable. It’s time to turn Texas blue.”
Harris and Crockett’s Personal Connection
The call highlights the personal connection between Harris and Crockett, who was a co-chair of Harris’ 2024 presidential campaign. Crockett is a longtime mentee of Harris, and the congresswoman even spoke at the 2024 Democratic National Convention in support of Harris.
Before launching her Senate campaign in December, Crockett sought advice from Harris, with a source familiar with the matter noting that the two had discussed how the former vice president could help during the final stretch of Crockett’s campaign.
Harris’ History of Supporting Personal Connections
While Harris has not weighed in on many Democratic contests, she has made endorsements for candidates with whom she has close personal connections. In 2025, she supported New Orleans Mayor Helena Moreno in her campaign, as Moreno had served as a co-chair of Harris’ first presidential campaign in 2019. Harris has also endorsed Dan Koh, a former White House aide during her time as vice president, in his run for Congress in Massachusetts’ 6th Congressional District.
Crockett Reflects on Harris’ Mentorship
At the 2024 DNC, Crockett shared a personal anecdote about Harris’ guidance when she first arrived in Congress. Crockett recalled feeling uncertain about her decision to join Congress when Harris “saw right through me” and offered words of encouragement. Crockett described the moment, saying:
“When I first got to Congress, I wasn’t sure I made the right decision. She saw right through me. She saw the distress. I immediately began crying. And the most powerful woman in the world wiped my tears and listened.”
Crockett added that Harris reassured her, saying, “You are exactly where God wants you.”
Harris’ Memoir: Support for Young Talent
In her memoir, Harris mentioned Crockett as one of the “younger talents” in the Democratic Party whom she wanted to help mentor. This reflects Harris’ ongoing commitment to supporting rising political figures who share her values.
