A father in Ohio is facing serious felony charges after allegedly strangling his adult daughter during a heated argument. Jeffrey Canzonetta, 56, reportedly attacked his 22-year-old daughter over a dispute that began with the state of her messy room. The incident quickly escalated, involving Canzonetta’s wife, who also experienced his explosive temper.
Alleged Attack Over Room Dispute
According to the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office, the argument began when Canzonetta entered his daughter’s bedroom to greet her. While there, he reportedly made negative comments about the mess in her room. Despite his daughter asking him to leave multiple times, he allegedly continued approaching her, escalating the confrontation.
The argument reportedly spilled into the hallway, waking his wife, Maria. She told police that when she tried to intervene, Canzonetta pushed her to the ground and continued confronting his daughter.
Strangulation and Arrest
The situation worsened when Canzonetta allegedly wrapped his hands around his daughter’s neck. The incident report states that she told officers he “pushed her against the wall and put his hand around her throat and squeezed tightly, and she couldn’t breathe.” After allegedly choking his daughter, Canzonetta left for work.
He was arrested later that afternoon at his job without incident and taken to the Trumbull County Jail. Public records show he has been charged with felony strangulation and two misdemeanor counts of domestic violence.

Canzonetta made his initial court appearance on May 11 via video at the Girard Municipal Court. Bail was set at $10,000, though reports noted a figure of $7,500. His preliminary hearing, originally scheduled for May 14, has been rescheduled for July 22, 2026.
