There’s always debate about when a child is old enough to be left alone. Every kid develops at their own pace, and some may be ready sooner than others. But one thing most parents can agree on: a 6-month-old baby is way too young to be left home alone.
Maryland Teen Mom Arrested for Leaving Infant Alone
Kira Faust, a 19-year-old mom from Maryland, allegedly left her infant home alone in unsafe conditions. Police were called for a welfare check at her apartment on the 600 block of West Bel Air Avenue in Aberdeen. Officers found the baby in “unsafe and unsanitary living conditions” and immediately took the child to UM Upper Chesapeake Medical Center for evaluation and basic care items.
The Reason Behind the Neglect
After a search coordinated between Aberdeen and Bel Air police, Faust was located. She reportedly admitted she left her baby at home to meet friends at McDonald’s. While McDonald’s is generally considered a kid-friendly place, police and the public agreed that leaving a 6-month-old alone is unacceptable.
Faust was arrested on a child neglect charge but later released on her own recognizance. The baby was placed in the care of Child Protective Services for safe placement.
Public Reaction and Outrage
The story sparked strong reactions online. Many people questioned Faust’s judgment:
“I just want to know the logic behind leaving an infant home unattended to go get McDonald’s,” one person wrote.
Others stressed the importance of accountability:
“Kudos for actually pressing charges. Now let’s see what the judge figures out for accountability…or if there will be any,” a reader commented.
Some highlighted the realities of parenting:
“Don’t gotta be grown to have a baby, but you gotta be grown to care for a baby. Reading this as my 6.5-month-old sleeps on me, hurts my soul. Bless that baby,” another wrote.
There were mentions that Faust may struggle with addiction, which could have affected her decision-making. However, the truth about that has not been confirmed.
Lessons About Parenting Responsibility
Teen parenting is often glamorized on TV and social media, but it’s far from simple. Raising a baby requires constant care, sacrifice, and maturity. Even something as small as taking your infant to McDonald’s safely shows readiness and responsibility. For now, Faust’s actions serve as a reminder that parenting is serious and children’s safety must always come first.
