Two teenagers from Laplace have been arrested in connection with an attempted vehicle theft and burglary at a senior living center.

Teens Arrested in Laplace Vehicle Burglary

The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office reported that the juveniles, aged 13 and 14, were booked for attempted theft of a vehicle and simple burglary of a motor vehicle.

Incident at Senior Living Center

Deputies responded just after 3 a.m. on April 14 to the Place Dubourg Senior Living Center at 201 Rue Dubourg after a report of a vehicle burglary. A security guard saw two young males inside a vehicle in the parking lot, with one in the driver’s seat and the other in the back seat. When the guard approached, both suspects fled on foot.

Evidence and Damage

Investigators later found a cellphone near the vehicle that belonged to one of the suspects. Authorities said the vehicle had a shattered rear passenger window and a damaged steering column.

Arrests and Release

During the investigation, detectives identified both juveniles. The 13-year-old was arrested on May 13, and the 14-year-old was arrested on May 19. Both were released into the custody of their parents, according to the sheriff’s office.

This case highlights ongoing concerns about vehicle burglaries in the area and the importance of security measures at senior living facilities.
