A shocking crime in New Jersey has left a family and community reeling after a teenager allegedly killed his own grandmother in a brutal attack.
Teenager Arrested for Killing Grandmother
Louis Brown, 18, has been arrested and charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon. The victim, 69-year-old Darlene Brown, was his grandmother, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
The Incident
The killing took place on Monday at a multi-unit residential building on Justin Way in Jackson Township, about 20 miles southwest of Asbury Park. Around 7 a.m., police responded to a 911 call reporting a murder and found Brown waiting at the front door. He surrendered with his hands up.
Inside, officers discovered a grisly scene. In an upstairs bedroom, Darlene Brown’s body was found with two knives still in her head and neck. She had at least eight stab wounds, according to the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Investigation Details
Police said Louis Brown had made the 911 call and admitted responsibility. Crime scene investigators found blood stains on the carpet, in a bathroom sink, and splattered on walls. Multiple knives, clothing, bedding, and towels were collected as evidence. Additional knives were found in both the teenager’s and victim’s bedrooms.
Warning Signs
School officials reportedly said that Louis had previously made threatening comments about harming people while making hand gestures like holding a gun. Neighbors also noticed unusually loud music coming from the residence around 1 a.m. the night before the attack.
During the 911 call, Louis admitted to drinking and said that the only weapons in the house were knives. He also confirmed to investigators that he was responsible for his grandmother’s death.
Background
Louis had lived with his grandmother most of his life and reportedly had limited contact with other family members. The victim’s daughter said she noticed the teenager acting withdrawn and not himself in the days before the killing.
Court and Detention
Louis Brown is being held in the Ocean County Jail without bail. Authorities continue their investigation into the horrific crime.
