A tragic head-on collision in Louisiana claimed the life of a 78-year-old woman from Fort Necessity.

Elderly Woman Dies in Head-On Crash

Lorita Gilmore, 78, was killed when another vehicle crossed the centerline and struck her SUV on LA 89 near Hopeland Plantation Road, south of Youngsville in Vermilion Parish. The crash occurred Friday, May 22, shortly after 3:30 p.m.

Details of the Collision

Gilmore was driving a 2023 GMC Terrain north on LA 89 when a 2008 Nissan Xterra traveling south crossed into her lane and hit her vehicle head-on. Authorities have not yet determined why the Nissan crossed the centerline.

Gilmore, who was wearing her seatbelt, died at the scene. The driver of the Nissan was taken to a local hospital with non-critical injuries.

Investigation

Louisiana State Police collected blood samples for analysis as part of the investigation. The crash remains under review.
