Man Killed While Fleeing Traffic Stop

Shane Hebert, 40, of Livingston, Louisiana, was struck on Interstate 55 South near the 68-mile marker in Copiah County around 5:21 p.m., according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP).

Incident Details

Hebert was riding a 2004 Honda Sport motorcycle when a state trooper stopped him for a tag violation. During the stop, authorities discovered Hebert had an active warrant from Louisiana. When the trooper tried to detain him, Hebert became combative.

The trooper attempted to use a Taser, and a physical struggle ensued. Hebert then fled on foot, running south along the interstate.

While running, Hebert was first struck by a 2020 Nissan Rogue. He then crossed the median into northbound lanes, where he was hit a second time by a 2014 Chrysler Pacifica.

Hebert suffered fatal injuries in the second collision and was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else, including the trooper and vehicle drivers, was injured.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
