The LSU Tigers are seeing more changes in their quarterback room ahead of Lane Kiffin’s first season as head coach.
Emile Picarella III Leaving LSU
Quarterback Emile Picarella III has decided to leave LSU after just one season, according to Matt Moscona of Locked on LSU. Picarella, a three-star recruit from University Lab High School in Baton Rouge, redshirted last season and did not appear in a game.
His departure comes less than a day after LSU announced the addition of Kaden Martin from Middle Tennessee State to a quarterback room that already includes three transfer QBs.
Picarella’s Statement
Picarella shared his thoughts on leaving LSU:
“I’ve decided to move on from LSU. I’ll always appreciate my teammates, the old and new staff, and the opportunity I had there. I wish the program nothing but success.”
He joined LSU as a preferred walk-on, despite receiving scholarship offers from multiple Power 4 programs, including Oregon, Ole Miss, Kentucky, Louisville, and more. His decision reflected a desire to learn and develop rather than chase immediate playing time.
Next Steps
Given his talent and offers from other programs, Picarella is expected to find a new team easily. He may join a Group of 5 school where he could compete for a starting role.
LSU’s Quarterback Room
Picarella’s departure leaves a small gap but highlights the depth LSU has at quarterback under Lane Kiffin. The Tigers added several transfers this offseason:
- Sam Leavitt from Arizona State (projected starter for 2026)
- Landen Clark from Elon
- Husan Longstreet from USC
This gives LSU solid depth behind Leavitt, allowing the team to manage injuries or absences during the upcoming season.
