Louisiana drivers searching for cheaper fuel prices may be finding some relief in St. Bernard Parish, where gas prices are currently among the lowest in the state, according to new data from AAA.

AAA reports that the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in St. Bernard Parish is approximately $3.935, slightly below the statewide average.

At the moment, Louisiana’s statewide average gas price stands at about $4.005 per gallon.

St. Bernard Prices Lower Than Nearby Areas

Compared to surrounding parishes, St. Bernard drivers are paying noticeably less at the pump.

According to AAA:

LocationAverage Gas Price
St. Bernard Parish$3.935
Orleans Parish$3.968
Jefferson Parish$3.992
Louisiana State Average$4.005

Local reports also found several gas stations along West Judge Perez Drive selling fuel for as low as $3.79 to $3.89 per gallon.

Drivers Traveling for Lower Prices

Some drivers say they are now travelling outside their home areas specifically to save money on fuel.

Louisiana resident Russell Sparrow Jr. told reporters he regularly drives from Orleans Parish to St. Bernard Parish because of the lower prices.

As fuel costs continue rising, many drivers across the state are becoming more selective about where they fill up.

Gas Prices Much Higher Than Last Year

AAA data shows how dramatically gas prices have increased over the past year in Louisiana.

One year ago, the state average was approximately $2.713 per gallon — far lower than today’s prices.

Experts say global oil supply concerns have played a major role in the recent increases.

Global Conflict Affecting Oil Supply

Energy experts say international tensions and disruptions involving the Strait of Hormuz have reduced oil flow and pushed fuel prices upward worldwide.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes, and instability in the region can directly affect gasoline prices in the United States.

Tulane University energy professor Eric Smith recently explained that gas prices may eventually fall once oil shipments return to normal levels.

However, Smith warned that the situation remains unstable and the timeline for price reductions continues shifting because the larger geopolitical issues have not yet been resolved.

Small Drop Seen This Week

Despite the overall high prices, AAA did report a slight improvement this week.

Louisiana’s statewide average reportedly dropped slightly from Sunday’s average of $4.02 per gallon.

While the decrease is small, some drivers are hoping prices may continue easing in the coming weeks if global oil markets stabilize.
