A Napoleonville woman was killed after her vehicle overturned in Assumption Parish

A woman from Napoleonville was killed Tuesday morning in a single-vehicle crash in Assumption Parish, according to Louisiana State Police.

Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop C said the crash happened shortly after 6 a.m. on Louisiana Highway 401, about 2.6 miles east of Louisiana Highway 400.

Vehicle Left the Road and Overturned

Police identified the victim as Sara Magnuson, 40.

According to investigators, Magnuson was driving a 2008 Toyota Avalon east on LA 401 when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle failed to negotiate a right-hand curve.

State police said the car veered off the left side of the road, hit a ditch, struck an embankment, and overturned.

Victim Died at the Scene

Troopers reported that Magnuson was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

She suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials also said a routine toxicology sample was collected and submitted for analysis.

Investigation Remains Ongoing

The crash remains under investigation by Louisiana State Police.

State police reminded drivers that properly wearing a seat belt can greatly reduce the risk of serious injury or death in a crash. Louisiana law requires all vehicle occupants to wear seat belts at all times.
