Four people in Louisiana have been arrested and charged in a multimillion-dollar insurance fraud scheme

Four residents of New Iberia have been arrested in connection with an alleged automobile insurance fraud scheme in Iberia Parish, according to authorities.

Rayshonte Oppenheimer, 29, Briannie Butler, 32, Passion Keal, 24, and Quandalyn Bernard, 33, were each charged with felony automobile insurance fraud.

The arrests followed an investigation by the Louisiana State Police Insurance Fraud / Auto Theft Unit.

Investigation Started After Fraud Complaint

Authorities said the investigation began after a referral from Timber Creek Insurance Services and the Louisiana Department of Insurance-Fraud Division involving suspected fraudulent insurance claims.

Investigators allege the suspects made false statements during the insurance claims process connected to a 2025 crash involving a Pelican Waste & Debris garbage truck.

Suspects Allegedly Sought Millions

Officials said the fraudulent claims could have resulted in approximately $4 million in payouts if they had been successful.

Between April 30 and May 1, 2026, investigators secured arrest warrants for all four suspects.

Authorities said the suspects were later arrested or turned themselves in before being booked into the Iberia Parish Jail.

Bond Information Not Released

Officials have not released bond information at this time.

The investigation remains ongoing.
