The case started when the Louisiana Department of Insurance reported suspected fraud to the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation. The referral raised serious doubts about a car crash claim filed by two individuals.
According to the office of Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill, the accused have been identified as Rhashiedi Porter, 48, and Sarai Stansberry, 37. Both are now facing multiple criminal charges.
Investigators quickly began examining the details of the claim to verify whether the accident and injuries were genuine.
Couple Claimed Serious Injuries After Parking Lot Crash
As per officials, the couple stated under oath that they were inside a car during a crash in a parking lot. They claimed the accident caused injuries that required more than five months of medical treatment.
To support their story, they also filed an insurance claim seeking compensation. The amount they reportedly tried to claim was around $30,000.
During legal proceedings, they maintained their version of events and even filed a lawsuit related to the crash.
