A Hammond Police officer has been arrested in connection with alleged cockfighting activities, according to local and federal authorities.
The Louisiana Attorney General’s Office, in coordination with the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation and Homeland Security Investigations, took the officer into custody on May 27.
Charges and Investigation Details
Hammond Police officials stated that arrest warrants were issued for the officer in connection with alleged cockfighting activities. Charges reportedly include misuse of state computer systems and retaliation against a witness.
Due to the ongoing federal investigation, the officer’s identity and photos have not been released.
Administrative Action
The officer has been placed on administrative leave and will proceed through the applicable Civil Service process, according to Hammond Police Department officials.
