The principal and assistant principal of a Covington school have been charged for failing to report suspected child abuse or neglect, authorities say.
Covington School Administrators Charged for Failing to Report Abuse
Lauryn Faciane, principal of E.E. Lyon Elementary School, and assistant principal Tanya Barth were both charged on Wednesday for not complying with Louisiana’s mandatory reporting law. Under state law, school officials must report suspected abuse, neglect, or other incidents involving children to law enforcement.
The charges followed a police investigation into the alleged failure to report. Covington Police said they are not releasing details about the incidents to protect the children involved.
Authorities Involved
The Covington Police Department confirmed that the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services, the Louisiana Department of Education, and the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education have been notified of the charges.
Both Faciane and Barth were released after posting $5,000 bonds each.
This case serves as a reminder of the importance of mandatory reporting laws, which exist to safeguard children and ensure timely intervention in cases of suspected abuse or neglect.
