Another 17-year-old has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of an Acadiana High School student more than a month after the incident, according to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Wilshawn Gabriel, 17, of Lafayette Parish, has been charged with accessory to second-degree murder. The arrest follows the earlier detention of Keenan Charles, also 17 and from Lafayette Parish, who is facing a second-degree murder charge.

Details of the Shooting

The arrests stem from the shooting death of 17-year-old Wykiel Provost of Scott. Deputies reported that Provost was shot at the Ile des Cannes Apartments on Sweetbriar Street on Sunday, April 19. He was rushed to a hospital with critical injuries but later died from his wounds.

Authorities said the investigation into the deadly shooting is ongoing, and additional arrests are expected as law enforcement continues to gather evidence.
