An Alabama mother has been arrested after allegedly killing her special needs baby by putting a deadly mixture into the feeding tube he relied on to survive.
Arrest and Charges
Kaitlynn Dominick, 22, from Daphne, was taken into custody on Tuesday and charged with manslaughter and aggravated child ab*se. She was released on a $75,000 bond and is now on GPS-monitored house arrest. She is prohibited from contacting anyone under the age of 18. Dominick is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on June 9.
The Incident
Authorities said that on May 4, Dominick allegedly fed her 17-month-old son Patrick a chemical mixture through his feeding tube. Patrick, who suffered from an undisclosed chronic medical condition, died the following morning. The substance was described in court records as a combination of table salt and another liquid.
Investigators explained that while the mixture might not have caused severe harm to a healthy adult, it created a life-threatening medical emergency for a child with existing health issues. Patrick was taken to USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital after suffering a medical crisis, where medical professionals raised concerns about the circumstances after reviewing his lab results.
Investigation
Authorities said Dominick gave conflicting statements about the events of that day. Investigators claimed she admitted to feeding her son the liquid that led to his death. Officials believe she was aware that her actions could harm the child.
