The mother of 7-month-old Emmanuel Haro has been sentenced to more than 12 years in prison after pleading guilty in connection with her son’s death.
The case gained widespread attention after she reported the infant missing and claimed he had been abducted while she was unconscious. However, investigators later determined that the story was false and that the child had likely died as a result of prolonged ab*se.
Mother Pleads Guilty in Infant Death Case
On May 29, 42-year-old Rebecca Haro pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter, child endangerment, and being an accessory to murder after the fact. By entering the guilty plea, she also gave up her right to a trial.
Following her plea, the court sentenced her to 12 years and 8 months in prison. Prosecutors argued that although she may not have directly caused her son’s fatal injuries, she failed to protect him despite being aware of the ab*se he was allegedly suffering.
False Missing Child Report Triggered Search
The case began on August 14, 2025, when Rebecca Haro reported her 7-month-old son missing. She told authorities that she had been changing Emmanuel’s diaper in a parking lot when someone knocked her unconscious. According to her account, the baby was gone when she regained consciousness.
The report led to an extensive search operation as authorities worked to locate the missing infant. However, investigators soon became suspicious of her version of events and began examining evidence related to the case.
As the investigation progressed, detectives concluded that the reported abduction had never occurred.
Investigators Found Evidence of Ab*se
According to investigators, medical experts reviewed photographs and digital evidence connected to the child and found signs consistent with ongoing ab*se and serious head trauma.
A forensic pediatric specialist involved in the case reportedly determined that Emmanuel displayed abnormal shaking in his arms and legs, a symptom linked to a brain injury caused by ab*se.
The findings strengthened investigators’ belief that the infant had suffered severe injuries before his disappearance was reported.
Body of Emmanuel Haro Still Missing
One of the most heartbreaking aspects of the case is that Emmanuel Haro’s body has never been found. Despite extensive efforts by law enforcement, authorities have been unable to recover the infant’s remains.
Prosecutors have expressed little hope that the child’s body will ever be located. The lack of physical evidence made the investigation more challenging, but authorities said digital records, photographs, and expert medical analysis helped establish what happened to the child.
Even without recovering Emmanuel’s body, prosecutors were able to pursue criminal charges against both parents.
Father Previously Sentenced for Murder
Emmanuel’s father, Jake Haro, was sentenced in November 2025 after pleading guilty to murder. The court handed him a 32-year prison sentence for his role in the child’s death.
His conviction marked a major development in the case and supported investigators’ conclusion that Emmanuel died as a result of ab*se rather than an abduction.
Authorities believe the parents’ actions prevented investigators from locating the child’s remains and delayed efforts to uncover the truth.
Prosecutor Criticises Mother’s Failure to Protect Child
During Rebecca Haro’s sentencing hearing, prosecutors stressed that parents have a responsibility to protect their children from harm.
Assistant District Attorney Brandon Smith stated that Rebecca Haro was going to prison because she failed as a mother. He argued that while she may not have physically harmed Emmanuel herself, she knew ab*se was taking place and repeatedly chose not to intervene.
Prosecutors said her failure to act ultimately contributed to the tragic outcome for the infant.
