A 19-year-old Illinois skateboarder who has gained recognition on the international skateboarding circuit is facing serious criminal charges after allegedly attacking a man with a skateboard at a train station.
Authorities claim the incident left the victim with severe head injuries, including a fractured skull and a brain bleed. The case has attracted attention not only because of the severity of the allegations but also because the accused is a professional athlete with a growing career in skateboarding.
Professional Skateboarder Arrested Following Train Station Assault
Gabriel R. Schuch, 19, has been charged with aggravated battery in a public place and aggravated battery causing great bodily harm. The charges stem from an incident that allegedly occurred around midnight at a Metra train station in downtown Crystal Lake, Illinois, located about 45 miles northwest of Chicago.
According to police, officers were dispatched to the station after receiving a 911 call from a person who reported being assaulted by someone known to them. When officers arrived, they found the victim suffering from serious injuries and immediately arranged medical treatment.
Police Say Skateboard Was Used During Attack
Investigators determined that the suspect allegedly used a skateboard as a weapon during the confrontation. According to police reports, the victim was struck in the head with the skateboard, causing significant injuries.
Court documents reportedly allege that Schuch struck the victim in the head and face using the wheels and axle section of the skateboard. The victim’s injuries were severe enough to require hospitalization and intensive medical care.
Authorities began searching for Schuch shortly after the incident. Around 1:55 a.m., Illinois State Police located him in Lansing, Illinois, approximately 75 miles southeast of Crystal Lake. He was taken into custody without incident.
