A heartbreaking case in Washington state has led to the arrest of a father after the body of his 4-year-old son was discovered buried in the backyard of the child’s grandmother’s home. The investigation began as a search for another missing child but quickly uncovered a tragedy that has left family members and the local community demanding answers.
Father Arrested After Missing Boy Found Dead
Authorities in Aberdeen, Washington, have arrested 36-year-old Jacob Scott Bevins in connection with the death of his 4-year-old son, Aiden Bevins.
Police took Bevins into custody after investigators discovered the child’s body buried on a residential property on May 15. The arrest came following several days of investigation into the whereabouts of Aiden and his family members.
According to police, Bevins is currently being held in the Grays Harbor County Jail without bail while the investigation continues.
Investigation Began During Search for Another Child
The case first came to the attention of law enforcement on May 12 when the Aberdeen Police Department received a complaint regarding the whereabouts of Bevins’ 6-year-old daughter.
Authorities later determined that the girl was safe and staying with her mother. However, while looking into that situation, investigators learned from relatives that no one had seen Aiden for an extended period of time.
Those concerns prompted police to begin asking questions about the young boy’s whereabouts.
Family members reportedly became increasingly worried because they had not had contact with Aiden and were unable to confirm where he was living.
Father Allegedly Provided False Information
According to investigators, police initially visited the property where Aiden was believed to be living with his father and grandmother.
During that visit, Jacob Bevins allegedly told officers that the child was staying with relatives in another state.
Police followed up by contacting the relatives mentioned by Bevins. Authorities reported that those relatives denied having custody of Aiden and stated that they had not seen him.
The conflicting information raised additional concerns and led investigators to continue their search for the missing child.
Discovery of Aiden’s Body
On May 15, police returned to the property with assistance from the Washington State Patrol Crime Scene Response Team.
Detectives conducted another interview with Bevins during the investigation.
According to authorities, information obtained during those conversations ultimately led investigators to discover Aiden’s body buried in the backyard of the property.
The discovery shocked family members and the local community, transforming what began as a missing child investigation into a homicide case.

Despite those concerns, Aiden was eventually returned to his biological family.
Following news of the child’s death, Lopez expressed frustration and sadness, saying she believed the system had failed to protect him.
Her comments have renewed public discussion about child welfare procedures and how concerns raised by caregivers are evaluated.
