A Minnesota man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after admitting to a violent attack on his wife that prosecutors described as a near-fatal act of domestic violence. The case stemmed from a stabbing incident in April 2025 that left the victim with multiple serious injuries and required emergency surgery.
Minnesota Man Sentenced for Attempted Murder of Wife
Mehdi Badaoui, 53, was sentenced on June 3 to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to attempted first-degree murder.
The sentence was announced by the Dakota County Attorney’s Office following Badaoui’s guilty plea in March.
Prosecutors said the attack was a severe act of domestic violence that could easily have resulted in the victim’s death.
The sentence concludes a criminal case that began with a frantic emergency call and a rapid police response earlier this year.
911 Call Led Police to Scene
According to court records, officers with the Farmington Police Department responded to a residence around 8:30 a.m. on April 15, 2025.
Emergency dispatchers reportedly received a call from a woman who said she had been stabbed and was unable to move.
Authorities stated that they could hear the victim screaming for help during the emergency call.
When officers arrived at the home, they discovered a disturbing scene.
Police found Badaoui inside the residence with blood on his hands, while the victim was lying on the floor surrounded by blood.
Victim Suffered Multiple Stab Wounds
Investigators reported that the victim sustained approximately 10 stab wounds during the attack.
The injuries included wounds to her neck, armpit, and other areas of her body.
Due to the severity of her injuries, emergency medical personnel rushed her to a hospital where she underwent immediate surgery.
Authorities credited the emergency response and medical treatment with helping save her life.
The victim survived despite the extensive injuries.
Attack Allegedly Motivated by Jealousy
According to investigators, the victim told officers that Badaoui attacked her because he believed she was being unfaithful.
Police said she reported that he had previously threatened her and physically abused her on multiple occasions before the stabbing.
The victim told investigators that jealousy and accusations of infidelity were central to the confrontation that escalated into violence.
Authorities later learned that Badaoui had been monitoring his wife’s movements before the attack.
GPS Device Used to Track Wife
During questioning, Badaoui admitted that he suspected his wife of cheating on him.
According to investigators, he placed a GPS tracking device on her vehicle to monitor her whereabouts.
He reportedly told police that he observed her travel to a location other than her workplace on the morning of the attack.
After following her, he confronted her regarding his suspicions.
Both later returned home, where an argument occurred.
Investigators said the confrontation ultimately turned violent.
Family Members Witnessed Attack
Authorities interviewed family members who were inside the home during the incident.
Witnesses reportedly told investigators they woke up to yelling and saw Badaoui stabbing the victim.
According to police, family members also witnessed him dragging the victim from the kitchen into a bedroom.
Investigators stated that witnesses pleaded with him to stop.
Police reports indicate that witnesses heard him say he intended to kill the victim and go to jail.
Those statements became important evidence during the criminal investigation.
Defendant Admitted to Stabbing Victim
After receiving his Miranda rights, Badaoui spoke with investigators about the incident.
According to authorities, he admitted picking up a knife during the argument and attacking his wife.
He told investigators that he stabbed her several times after becoming angry during the confrontation.
Police later recovered a bloody pocketknife from the kitchen counter inside the residence.
The weapon was collected as evidence in the case.
Prosecutors Emphasize Domestic Violence Accountability
Following the sentencing, Dakota County Attorney Kathy Keena addressed the seriousness of the crime.
She described the attack as a brutal act of domestic violence that nearly resulted in a loss of life.
Prosecutors stated that the sentence reflects the justice system’s commitment to protecting victims and holding offenders accountable for violent crimes.
Officials also highlighted the importance of reporting domestic violence and seeking help when warning signs appear.
