Texas Man Sentenced to 70 Years for Deadly Bus Stop Stabbing
Carl Mott has been sentenced to 70 years in prison for killing 52-year-old Michael Bowman in San Antonio, Texas.
The sentence was announced by the Bexar County Criminal District Attorney’s Office. Mott was convicted on January 30 of murder and tampering with evidence related to the killing.
The stabbing occurred on December 14, 2024, at a bus stop on the northeast side of San Antonio.
Prosecutors said the crime was connected to a long-term extramarital relationship between Mott and Bowman’s wife.
Confrontation Turned Violent
According to investigators, Mott approached Bowman and his wife while they were standing at the bus stop.
During the encounter, words were exchanged between the men. The situation quickly escalated.
Authorities say Mott pulled out a knife and stabbed Bowman in the upper left shoulder.
After being attacked, Bowman and his wife ran to a nearby restaurant seeking help while he was bleeding heavily.
Employees at the restaurant attempted to assist while emergency services were contacted.
Victim Later Died From Injuries
Despite efforts to save him, Bowman later died from the injuries caused by the stabbing.
At the time of the incident, Bowman and his wife reportedly told authorities that Mott was the attacker.
They also claimed that Mott had previously assaulted Bowman during earlier conflicts.
Investigators later confirmed the stabbing as the cause of death.
Suspect Tried to Dispose of Evidence
After the attack, Mott fled the scene.
Surveillance cameras captured him throwing away the knife used in the stabbing in bushes near his workplace about 10 minutes after the incident.
Police used this footage during the investigation.
Authorities located and arrested Mott roughly 11 hours after the stabbing occurred.
The knife believed to have been used in the attack was recovered four days later.
Conviction and Sentencing
Following a trial, a jury found Mott guilty of murder and tampering with evidence.
On Friday, the court sentenced him to 70 years in prison.
Prosecutors said the sentence reflects the seriousness of the crime.
Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales described the killing as a senseless act of violence driven by jealousy.
Impact of the Case
The case has drawn attention to how personal disputes and jealousy can escalate into deadly violence.
Authorities say the victim’s family has been deeply affected by the loss.
The sentence ensures that Mott will spend a significant portion of his life behind bars for the crime.
