A murder investigation in Texas has taken a dramatic turn after authorities revealed that a man initially believed to have died by suicide was actually killed by someone else.
Nearly nine months after the incident, investigators say new evidence led them to charge the victim’s estranged wife with his murder. The case has shocked the local community and highlights how early assumptions in death investigations can change as more evidence emerges.
Texas Man’s Death First Believed to Be Suicide
The case began on June 15 last year when 33-year-old Lonnie Moore was found dead inside his vehicle in New Caney, Texas.
Authorities discovered his body around 9 a.m. in a running vehicle parked on the side of the road. At first, investigators believed Moore had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
However, as detectives examined the scene and gathered more evidence, they began to question the original conclusion.
After further investigation, officials determined that the evidence did not support a suicide. Instead, they ruled Moore’s death a homicide.
Estranged Wife Arrested Months Later
Nine months after the discovery of Lonnie Moore’s body, investigators arrested his estranged wife, 31-year-old Breyanai Moore.
According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, she was taken into custody on Thursday and charged with murder.
Authorities now believe Breyanai Moore was responsible for the fatal shooting.
She is currently being held at the Montgomery County Jail without bond.
Her next court appearance has been scheduled for March 31.
Couple Had Been Separated for Two Years
Investigators learned that the couple had been separated for about two years at the time of Lonnie Moore’s death.
Despite the separation, they shared a 5-year-old daughter.
When police first spoke to Breyanai Moore after the incident, she told officers that she had texted Lonnie Moore on the morning he died.
According to her statement, she had informed him that she planned to file for divorce.
At that time, the conversation appeared to be the last contact between the two.
Police Investigate Possible Setup
During the investigation, detectives received new information from a friend of Breyanai Moore.
The friend reportedly told police that Breyanai Moore used a burner phone to contact her estranged husband.
According to the friend’s statement, the purpose of the phone was to lure Lonnie Moore into picking her up that morning.
Police believe that when Lonnie Moore arrived, Breyanai Moore entered the back seat of the vehicle.
Investigators say she allegedly shot him when he reached toward the back of the car.
Camera Evidence Linked Suspect to Scene
Authorities also relied on surveillance technology to track Breyanai Moore’s movements on the day of the incident.
Police said Flock license plate cameras captured images of a vehicle linked to her in the neighborhood where Lonnie Moore lived.
According to court documents, Breyanai Moore’s own mother helped identify her daughter in the camera footage.
This evidence reportedly placed her near the location around the time Lonnie Moore was found dead.
Mother Told Police About Daughter’s Behavior
During the investigation, Breyanai Moore’s mother also spoke with detectives about her daughter’s behavior following Lonnie Moore’s death.
She reportedly told investigators that Breyanai Moore appeared deeply troubled and overwhelmed with guilt.
According to the statement, her daughter lost weight and often cried after the incident.
Court documents also revealed that Breyanai Moore’s mother said her daughter strongly disliked her estranged husband and had expressed harmful wishes toward him.
Case Moves Forward in Court
With the new evidence and witness statements, investigators believe they have enough proof to pursue the murder charge.
Breyanai Moore remains in custody at the Montgomery County Jail while the legal process moves forward.
