A disturbing child case in Illinois has led to the arrest of a mother and her boyfriend after police discovered that her 11-year-old son had allegedly been abused for several years.
The case came to light when a local business owner found the boy outside wearing only a diaper and showing clear signs of physical injuries. Authorities say the child had suffered repeated violence and emotional abuse inside his own home.
11-Year-Old Boy Found Injured Outside Business
The investigation began on Friday morning at around 9:30 a.m. near Nippersink Boulevard and Grand Avenue in Fox Lake, Illinois.
According to the Fox Lake Police Department, a local business owner noticed an 11-year-old boy wandering outside. The child was wearing only a diaper and appeared badly injured.
Police said the boy had blood on his face along with multiple welts, bruises, and scratches across his body. Officers quickly transported the child to a nearby hospital for medical care.
This discovery triggered a deeper investigation that soon revealed shocking details about the boy’s life at home.
Mother and Boyfriend Arrested in Child Abuse Case
After taking the child to the hospital, police went to the boy’s home where they found his mother, 34-year-old Pricilla P. Marshall.
Authorities said four other children also lived in the house. These included two toddlers aged 1 and 2 and two older boys who were at school when police arrived. According to officers, none of the other children appeared to be harmed.
Police later arrested Marshall and her boyfriend, 35-year-old Cody R. Marion.
Both are now facing several serious charges, including:
- Aggravated battery
- Endangering the life of a child
- Two counts of domestic battery
They were taken to the Lake County Jail and are currently being held without bond.
Investigators Reveal Years of Abuse
During the investigation, authorities conducted forensic interviews with the children in the home. Police say the interviews revealed that the 11-year-old had been abused for years.
Investigators claim the abuse involved both physical violence and emotional cruelty.
According to police reports, Marshall and Marion allegedly:
- Beat the child using household items
- Poured dish soap into the boy’s mouth and ears
- Prevented him from attending school
These actions reportedly continued for a long period, causing both physical and emotional harm to the child.
Court Documents Describe Severe Punishments
During a court hearing, prosecutors shared more disturbing details about the abuse.
According to reports, Marshall allegedly used several objects to beat the boy, including:
| Object Used | Alleged Use |
|---|---|
| Extension cords | Used to whip the child |
| Metal spatulas | Used to strike him |
| Spoons | Used during punishments |
Police also said Marshall sometimes forced the boy to remove his clothes before beating him so the punishment would hurt more.
Prosecutors claim she also punched him in the face and even threatened to stab him “33 times.” In some cases, the boy’s older brother was forced to beat him as punishment.
Emotional Abuse and Humiliation
Authorities say the abuse was not only physical but also deeply emotional.
According to prosecutors, Marshall forced her son to kneel on uneven floorboards while writing the same sentence again and again in a notebook:
“you’re not a loved child, everybody hates you.”
This punishment reportedly lasted for long periods and was meant to humiliate and break the child emotionally.
Different Treatment Compared to Other Children
Investigators also discovered that the boy was treated differently from the other children in the home.
Reports say the other kids were given fast food from restaurants like McDonald’s or Pizza Hut.
Meanwhile, the abused boy was reportedly forced to eat canned food or simple ravioli instead.
Despite the serious abuse, police said none of the other children in the home appeared to have been harmed.
Suspects Remain in Jail
After gathering evidence and interviewing the children, police arrested both Marshall and Marion.
They are currently being held at the Lake County Jail without bond.
Authorities said Marion is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday as the legal process moves forward.
Cases like this highlight the importance of community awareness and reporting suspected abuse. In this situation, a local business owner’s quick action helped bring attention to the boy’s condition and allowed authorities to step in. Child protection officials will now focus on ensuring the safety and care of all children involved while the investigation and court proceedings continue.
