'Until he turned different colors' Mother admitted to killing 2 sons years apart by holding their nostrils, threatened to kill her daughters, police say

A disturbing child death case in Georgia has shocked the community after investigators say a young mother admitted to suffocating two of her infant sons years apart. The case has also raised serious questions about earlier warnings, past child protection involvement, and whether the tragedy could have been prevented.

Georgia Woman Accused of Killing Two Infant Sons

A 21-year-old Georgia woman, Dakota Taylor, is facing murder charges in connection with the deaths of both of her baby sons.

Authorities say Taylor allegedly suffocated:

  • Micah, her 7-month-old son who died in 2021
  • Caleb, her 8-month-old son who died in 2025

Taylor was arrested in November 2025 after investigators from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) linked her to Caleb’s death. At the time of her arrest, she was already in custody related to the earlier death of Micah.

Earlier Concerns Raised by Child Welfare Officials

Reports show that Taylor had already been under investigation by the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) years before the deaths of the two infants.

When she was a teenager, Taylor had two daughters and was living in a group home while pregnant with Micah.

Investigators later learned that Taylor had allegedly posted threats online and sent text messages saying she wanted to kill her daughters.

According to reports, she also allegedly held a knife to one of the girls’ throats in an attempt to stop their father from leaving her.

Because of safety concerns:

  • DFCS removed both girls from her care
  • The children were placed in foster care
  • They were later adopted by other families

People who worked on her case reportedly described Taylor as showing a “lack of attachment” to her children and considered her unfit to parent.

Death of First Son, Micah, in 2021

Micah was born in early 2021 while Taylor was still living in the group home.

When the baby was 7 months old, Taylor briefly ran away from the facility but later returned.

Just nine days later, Micah was found unresponsive.

According to reports:

  • The baby was discovered slumped over in a baby swing
  • His skin had turned blue
  • A staff member tried to help him, but he did not respond

Emergency responders were called, but Micah was pronounced dead.

Body camera footage from the police response reportedly showed officers describing Taylor’s behavior as calm and unemotional.

Second Infant Death in 2025

Years later, tragedy struck again.

In January 2025, Taylor brought her second son Caleb, who was 8 months old, to a relative’s home.

The relative reportedly told investigators that:

  • Caleb was covered with a blanket when he arrived
  • His hands appeared blue

The baby was rushed to the hospital but later died.

Alleged Confessions to Multiple People

According to investigators, several people reported that Taylor admitted to killing both babies.

An inmate who spoke with authorities reportedly told investigators that Taylor confessed to killing Caleb before bringing him to the relative’s house.

The inmate claimed Taylor knew the baby was already dead when she arrived.

Investigators also interviewed Micah’s father in October 2023, two years after the child’s death.

He reportedly told police that Taylor confessed to him that she:

  • Cut the inside of Micah’s nose
  • Held a COVID mask over his face until he stopped breathing

Taylor’s half-sister also reportedly told investigators that Taylor admitted she:

  • Pinched the baby’s nose closed
  • Covered his mouth and face with her hand
  • Held it there until the child stopped moving

Charges Filed in Two Different Counties

Because the deaths occurred in different locations, Taylor now faces charges in two separate counties in Georgia.

She has been charged with murder in connection with both deaths.

During a recent bond hearing in Jefferson County, a judge set:

  • $150,000 cash bond
  • $300,000 property bond

Taylor’s family reportedly said she does not have the financial resources to post bond.

In DeKalb County, however, the court denied bond entirely.

Upcoming Court Date

Taylor remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court again on April 7 in DeKalb County.

Prosecutors are expected to present additional evidence as the case continues through the legal system.
