A 53-year-old man from Napoleonville, Donnie Clifton Sr., was arrested Wednesday in connection with a boat theft reported earlier this year.
According to the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office, Clifton is accused of being involved in the theft of several items from a camp near Belle River.
Deputies said the stolen property included a boat, motor, and trailer.
Theft Reported in Early February
Authorities said the theft was first reported on February 4 when the owner of a camp in the Belle River area discovered the items missing.
Investigators began gathering information and searching for leads related to the stolen equipment.
The case took a turn when deputies learned that the motor from the stolen boat had been brought to a repair shop in Pierre Part.
Repair Shop Helped Identify the Suspect
According to deputies, Clifton allegedly brought the boat motor to a repair shop in Pierre Part.
The visit reportedly helped investigators connect him to the stolen property.
After identifying Clifton as a suspect, law enforcement officers moved forward with the arrest.
Charge Filed Against the Suspect
Clifton was arrested and charged with illegal possession of stolen things valued between $1,000 and $5,000.
This charge relates to Louisiana law involving possession of property known to be stolen within that value range.
Stolen Items Recovered
