A shocking family dispute in Broward County, Florida, has led to the arrest of a 34-year-old woman after police said her sister was shot during an argument.
The case became even more serious because the people involved were close family members, and later, both sisters reportedly refused to fully cooperate with investigators. What began as a disturbance call from a worried neighbour quickly turned into an attempted murder investigation.
What happened in the neighbourhood
According to the arrest report, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office responded after a neighbour called 911. The neighbour said she heard a woman screaming from across the street. She also reported hearing a loud “pop” sound that reminded her of a gunshot.
This immediately raised concern, and deputies rushed to the area to check what was going on. When they reached the neighbour’s house, the situation became even more suspicious. An unknown woman suddenly started banging on the front door. Soon after that, she got into a vehicle and quickly left the area.
The woman also left behind a backpack in the neighbour’s yard. When deputies checked the bag, they found blood on it. That made the case more urgent because it suggested that someone may have been badly injured nearby.
Police found blood inside the house
The neighbour then pointed officers towards a nearby house, where they found Magdalena Dybkowska. When Dybkowska opened the door, deputies noticed blood on the floor inside the house.
Police asked the 34-year-old woman to step outside so they could make sure nobody inside was hurt. However, she refused to come out. Deputies asked her again, but she refused a second time. Reports say that when officers tried to detain her, she pulled away and resisted.
Because of the blood and the possibility that someone had been injured, deputies searched the house. Inside, they found Dybkowska’s three children. Thankfully, none of them were injured.
During their search, authorities also found blood on a couch in the backyard. This suggested that the incident may have happened outside or that someone had been moved there after getting hurt.
Hospital report revealed the gunshot victim
As police continued looking into the case, a BOLO, or Be On the Look Out alert, was sent out for a possible gunshot victim. Soon after, a nearby hospital contacted deputies and told them that a woman with a gunshot wound had arrived at the emergency room with her boyfriend.
That update helped officers connect the pieces. They later learned that the injured woman and Dybkowska were biological sisters. Investigators said the two women had been involved in a verbal and physical fight before the shooting.
The victim’s boyfriend reportedly told police that he tried to break up the fight. He said he moved both women towards a couch in the backyard in an attempt to stop things from getting worse. But according to the arrest report, Dybkowska then allegedly pulled out a gun and shot her sister in the shoulder at close range.
What the family said after the shooting
The injured sister reportedly called her mother from the hospital. The mother was not present during the incident, but the victim allegedly told her that Dybkowska had shot her during the altercation.
Police said the victim suffered both an entry wound and an exit wound in her left arm. This showed that the bullet had passed through her arm, making the injury serious.

After the investigation, Dybkowska was booked into jail on three charges. These included:
