GONZALES, LOUISIANA — A 37‑year‑old man accused in an attempted homicide was taken to a hospital in critical condition from self‑inflicted stab wounds after a vehicle pursuit that ended on Burnside Avenue, authorities said.
Stabbing Reported in Prairieville
Ascension Parish deputies responded to a reported stabbing at a residence off Louisiana Highway 42 in Prairieville at about 3:11 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Gonzales Police Department. Officials said a woman sustained serious neck injuries in the attack.
Suspect Flees, Chase Ensues
The suspect was identified as Carmille Anderson, 37. After the stabbing, Anderson fled the scene in a vehicle. Deputies and Gonzales police officers located the vehicle along Highway 44, which triggered a chase that traveled onto Burnside Avenue.
During the pursuit, officials said Anderson’s vehicle struck several passing vehicles and attempted to hit people in a parking lot, though no motorists were seriously injured.
Self‑Inflicted Injuries During Stop
Police eventually stopped Anderson’s vehicle around 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of Burnside Avenue and Ascension Street. Officers found that he had inflicted stab wounds on himself during the chase.
Anderson was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, where he remains under medical care. Once released, he will be booked into the Ascension Parish Jail, officials said.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities have not released additional details about the woman’s condition or what led up to the stabbing. The investigation into the attempted homicide is ongoing as deputies collect evidence and interview witnesses.
