Lauren, a New York Times Bestselling author, has said that her actions were driven by a desire to protect her family. In an interview with Rolling Stone, she explained, “I was doing the best I knew to protect my family. The impulse was self-defense.”
She spoke about the emotional toll the incident has taken on her, describing how her life changed in an instant, stating, “It’s like, you spend your whole life just getting an entire deck of cards in order. And just take them and throw them up in the air one day, and I’m still waiting to see how they’re gonna land.”
Lauren’s Past and Current Situation
Lauren is currently enrolled in a two-year mental health diversion program. She revealed that she suffers from PTSD and has been a victim of sex trafficking and domestic violence. Speaking about her trauma, she mentioned that she had to work through old wounds to understand her present actions.
“I’m in a position where I can speak to it,” she said, referring to her experiences with trauma.

The dramatic standoff started when the LAPD responded to a hit-and-run crash near Lauren’s home in Eagle Rock, Los Angeles.
After the suspects fled the scene, they ran into Lauren’s residential neighborhood, where police quickly set up a barricade. Lauren exited her house with a 9mm handgun and pointed it at the officers. Despite repeated orders to drop the gun, she refused, and police shot her.
Lauren was treated for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds at a nearby hospital. No officers or bystanders were injured during the incident.
