Bonnet Carre Spillway, LA – A vehicle fire shut down the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 near the Bonnet Carre Spillway on Tuesday afternoon, causing significant traffic delays.
Fire and Traffic Disruption
Around 2 p.m., large flames and smoke were seen coming from a car on the spillway. The fire caused all eastbound lanes to be closed while fire and emergency responders worked to control the situation.
No Injuries Reported
According to state police, no injuries were reported from the incident. Fortunately, the fire was quickly brought under control, and all lanes of traffic were reopened by 3 p.m.
Traffic Congestion
The Department of Transportation and Development reported that traffic congestion from the incident stretched as far as seven miles during the closure. The situation returned to normal once the lanes were cleared.
