Chase Cruz, 28, attempted a daring escape from Daytona Beach Shores police while being read his Miranda rights in a Florida neighborhood. Cruz bolted from the officers and sprinted straight toward the Halifax River, triggering a dramatic chase.
In bodycam footage, one officer can be heard shouting, “We got one running.” Cruz, fully clothed, dove into the river, swimming away from the pursuing officers.
Police Pursue Cruz on Paddleboards
As Cruz swam deeper into the murky river, two officers mounted paddleboards and began chasing him into the water. Cruz, realizing he was surrounded, eventually put his hands in front of him in surrender.
One of the officers entered the water and, with the help of a flotation device, lifted Cruz onto the paddleboard. To prevent him from swimming further, Cruz was handcuffed to a buoy before being brought back to shore.
A team of officers lifted him to safety as he appeared to be shivering from his daring escape attempt. Cruz was later charged with loitering, prowling, and resisting arrest, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
Violent Costco Brawl Ends with Axe to Shopper’s Face
In another incident, a heated brawl at a Florida Costco reportedly ended when one shopper struck another in the face with an axe. The confrontation began after a customer tried to have another’s membership card suspended at a Costco gas pump.
The argument escalated when Valeria Andrea Aguilar, 29, allegedly screamed at shoppers and the gas station attendant, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office. After being told her membership was being revoked, Aguilar became furious.
She then chased the woman’s vehicle, following her for half a mile before confronting her again. Aguilar allegedly punched the woman through the car window and scratched her face, arms, and chest. In self-defense, the victim used an axe/multitool to strike Aguilar.
Aguilar was arrested and charged with burglary with assault or battery, according to WTVJ.
