Shakira, the Colombian music icon, expressed her strong belief in the power of women supporting one another during a recent interview on the Spanish late-night show Al Cielo Con Ella hosted by Henar Álvarez. The star emphasized her values of self-love and mutual support among women, which are central to her ongoing Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour.
Shakira’s “10 Commandments of a She-Wolf”
During the interview, Álvarez asked Shakira about the fifth commandment in her She-Wolf mantra, which reads, “A She-Wolf doesn’t attack, she defends.” Álvarez jokingly questioned whether sometimes attacking might be the best form of defense, but Shakira disagreed.
She explained, “What I emphasize a lot with these 10 She-Wolf commandments are two things: self-love, which is very important, and love for the pack. To not compete, to help and support each other mutually, especially amongst women.”
The Influence of Madeleine Albright’s Words
Shakira referenced former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright’s famous quote, “There is a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.” She stated, “I think that’s what I base it on, and that’s the cornerstone of where the 10 Commandments of the She-Wolves are established from.” Shakira’s words resonated with fans, highlighting the importance of solidarity and compassion among women.
Shakira’s Tour and Subtle Shade at Clara Chia Martí
Shakira’s Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour is not just a celebration of women but also an opportunity for the singer to express her emotions after her public split from soccer star Gerard Piqué in June 2022. While the interview did not mention Piqué or his new girlfriend Clara Chia Martí directly, Shakira has used her platform to throw subtle shade at Martí.
One of the commandments in Shakira’s show, the ninth one, reads, “She-Wolves will not covet their neighbors’ possessions. ¡Claramente!” The word “claramente,” meaning “clearly” in Spanish, serves as a pun on Clara’s name. Shakira also used this phrase in her 2022 diss track “BZRP Music Session #53”, which further fueled speculation that the commandment was aimed at Piqué’s girlfriend.
The Tour’s Success and Upcoming Performances
Shakira’s Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour continues to break records. In March, she performed to a crowd of 400,000 in Mexico City. The tour will soon hit major U.S. cities, with arena concerts scheduled through July 25. After the U.S. leg, Shakira will head to Madrid for a multi-night residency at Estadio Shakira.
In addition, Shakira’s massive performance at Copacabana Beach in Brazil on May 2 is expected to draw at least 1 million attendees, rivaling the crowds Madonna and Lady Gaga drew in previous years.
