Mrs. Casey Cheramie, the dedicated principal at Raceland Lower Elementary School, has earned a spot as a semifinalist for the prestigious Louisiana 2027 Principal of the Year award. This recognition highlights her exceptional leadership and commitment to the education of her students and the entire school community.
A Career Built on Dedication
Cheramie has been a passionate educator since 2001, working in various roles as both a teacher and administrator. Her journey began at North Larose Elementary School, where she spent 15 years shaping young minds before transitioning into administration.
Her first role as a principal was as Assistant Principal at Galliano Elementary School, where she served until she was appointed principal of Raceland Lower Elementary School six years ago.
Being named Lafourche Parish Principal of the Year was a significant honor for Cheramie, serving as a testament to her hard work and dedication. She expressed how meaningful it was to be selected by her fellow administrators, emphasizing the collaborative spirit among the instructional leaders in Lafourche Parish.
Making a Difference at Raceland Lower Elementary
Cheramie’s leadership has had a profound impact at Raceland Lower Elementary. Under her guidance, the school’s performance scores saw significant improvement, rising from 79.8 in 2024 to 85.2 in 2025—a remarkable leap and one of the largest single-year increases in the parish.
Cheramie attributes this success to a systematic approach grounded in strong relationships, high expectations, and the establishment of clear structures and effective systems. Her focus on building relationships with both students and staff has created an environment where everyone can thrive.
A Heart for Students
Cheramie’s love for her job is evident in her everyday interactions with the students. She said, “Raceland Lower truly has my heart.” Her favorite part of the day is greeting her students with hugs and high-fives, as they share stories and moments that help strengthen their bond. Cheramie finds it incredibly rewarding to watch each student grow and reach their highest level of success.
Her commitment to her students is reflected in the positive changes at the school, where she continues to nurture both academic and personal growth.
Future Aspirations
Looking ahead, Cheramie remains fully committed to the growth of Raceland Lower Elementary. She wakes up every day motivated to continue improving the school and serving her students and staff. Cheramie has set her sights on expanding her impact and hopes to one day serve as a district director, influencing more students, educators, and schools.
