A social media influencer known as Cash Cartier has been sentenced to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty in connection with the death of his girlfriend, a case he initially blamed on his dog.

Guilty Plea and Sentencing

Kaleb Mickens pleaded guilty to first-degree aggravated assault family violence, according to the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office. In addition to the 40-year sentence, he received 20 years for a probation violation tied to a prior assault case and 15 years for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. All sentences will be served concurrently.

Pattern of Abuse Revealed

Prosecutors said multiple women came forward during the case, describing a pattern of abuse that included manipulation, violence and s**ual assault. Officials noted that the charges stemmed from incidents involving different women Mickens had relationships with.

Initial Claims Disputed

In October 2023, Mickens called 911 claiming his girlfriend, Sheila Cuevas, had been attacked by his dog and was not breathing. The claim led to the dog being euthanized. However, investigators later determined the animal was not responsible for her death.

Questions Around Cause of Death

Despite the fatal outcome, prosecutors said complications in determining the exact cause of death prevented them from filing murder charges. Prosecutor Peter Gieseking explained that while the circumstances were severe, medical evidence did not allow for a murder charge.

Public Persona vs. Private Allegations

Mickens was known as a figure associated with IM Academy, where he promoted financial success and recruited followers. Authorities said he used his perceived wealth and status to influence others while concealing a history of violent behavior.

Family Seeks Accountability

During sentencing, Cuevas’ family addressed Mickens in court, saying that while justice could not bring her back, accountability was necessary.
