Former Vice President Kamala Harris said she is considering another run for president, telling a crowd she is “thinking about it” during an appearance at the National Action Network Convention in New York City.
Crowd Encourages Another Campaign
During a conversation with Al Sharpton, Harris responded to a direct question about a future campaign by saying she “might” run again. Her remarks were met with chants of “run again” from the audience.
Criticism of Political Status Quo
Harris said her recent travels across the United States, particularly in the South, have reinforced her belief that the current political system is not working for many Americans. She emphasized the need to reduce bureaucracy and focus on delivering real progress rather than process.
Gathering of Potential 2028 Contenders
The convention has drawn several possible Democratic presidential hopefuls, including Pete Buttigieg, Josh Shapiro, Wes Moore, JB Pritzker, Andy Beshear, Mark Kelly, and Ro Khanna. Many have either expressed interest in running or have not ruled it out.
Sharp Criticism of Donald Trump
Harris also criticized Donald Trump, particularly over foreign policy and the Iran conflict. She argued that his approach has weakened U.S. alliances and diminished the country’s global standing.
She challenged Trump’s claim that the U.S. had “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear capabilities, suggesting ongoing tensions indicate otherwise.
Focus on Midterm Elections
For now, Harris is focusing on supporting Democratic candidates ahead of upcoming midterm elections. Her schedule includes fundraising events in several Southern states, including North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Arkansas, as she continues to engage with voters nationwide.
