Authorities in Texas say a man was killed after returning home from work, allegedly by his stepdaughter and her accomplice, who had already murdered his wife earlier that day. The case has shocked the local community and led to capital murder charges against both suspects.
Charges and Arrest
Cassandra Lange, 29, and Joby Williams, 30, have been charged with capital murder of multiple persons in the deaths of Cherry Rehbein, 54, and Stephen Rehbein, 58.
According to the Medina County Sheriff’s Office, both suspects are being held on $1 million surety bonds.
Timeline of the Killings
Investigators believe the घटनाएँ began on Monday at the victims’ home on County Road 265 in Mico.
Authorities allege that Lange and Williams first killed Cherry Rehbein inside the home. Later that day, when Stephen Rehbein returned from work, he was also killed.
Lange was identified as Cherry Rehbein’s biological daughter, while Stephen Rehbein was her stepfather.
Discovery and Welfare Check
Two days later, concern grew when Stephen Rehbein failed to show up for work. A co-worker reported his absence, prompting deputies to conduct a welfare check at the home.
When officers arrived, they were unable to contact anyone inside but noticed signs of possible foul play, including bloody items found in a trash can outside the residence.
Investigation and Arrest
Authorities obtained search warrants and began tracking the victims’ vehicles. One of the vehicles was later spotted traveling near Corpus Christi.
Law enforcement stopped the vehicle and found Lange, Williams, and two children inside.
The children included a 6-year-old girl and a 1-month-old baby. The older child was placed in the custody of her father, while the infant was taken into care by state child services.
Confession and Recovery of Remains
During questioning, Lange allegedly confessed that she and Williams killed both victims and disposed of their bodies in a ravine.
Investigators launched a search in the Medina Lake area, where they eventually found two large black garbage bags hidden in a deep ravine. The remains were recovered and sent for autopsy.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities say the investigation is still ongoing as they continue to gather evidence and build the case against the suspects.
