A disturbing incident from South Carolina has brought attention to how domestic disputes can quickly turn dangerous, especially when a child is present. Authorities have shared details of a case where a woman is accused of both assaulting and shooting her ex-boyfriend during an argument.
What Happened in the Incident
The incident took place in Dentsville, a suburb near Columbia. According to reports, 29-year-old Khila Wood was with her young child, who is under the age of three, and the child’s father on the evening of the incident.
It is believed that the two adults got into an argument. During the dispute, Wood allegedly hit the man on the head with a gun. This led to a struggle between the two over the weapon.
Allegations of Shooting
Authorities say that after the struggle, Wood kept control of the gun. As the man walked towards a vehicle to check on their child, she allegedly shot him.
Despite the seriousness of the situation, the child was not physically injured. However, the incident has raised strong concerns about the safety of children in such violent situations.
Police Response and Investigation
The case is being handled by the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. When deputies arrived at the scene, they reportedly found two pools of blood, showing how serious the incident was.
A witness at the location also reportedly told officers that Wood had shot the man. This statement became an important part of the early investigation.
What Happened After the Shooting
After the incident, both Wood and the injured man left the scene together. He was later dropped off at a hospital, where he received treatment for his injuries.
Following this, Wood contacted law enforcement and informed them of her location. Police then arrested her without further incident.
She is currently being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. According to records, her bond has been set at $125,000.
Charges Filed Against Khila Wood
Khila Wood is facing serious charges, including domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature. She has also been charged with neglect by a legal custodian, mainly because the incident happened in front of a very young child.
These charges highlight not just the physical harm caused but also the emotional risk and danger to the child present during the incident.
Child’s Safety and Current Situation
After the arrest, authorities ensured the safety of the child. The young child has now been placed in the care of their grandmother.
Officials often take such steps to protect children from further exposure to violence and to ensure they are in a safe environment.
